Takamatsu's location on the Seto Inland Sea and at the entrance to Shikoku makes it one of the great day-trip bases in western Japan. The art islands — Naoshima, Teshima, Inujima — are an hour by ferry from the Sunport. Inland, Kotohira and its great Konpira shrine are an hour by train. The pilgrimage town of Zentsu-ji is closer; the Inland Sea castle of Marugame is on the same route. To the east, Yashima and Shikoku Mura are barely outside the city limits.
