Temple number 84 on the Shikoku pilgrimage of 88 temples, sitting on the summit of Yashima plateau. The main hall is a fine fourteenth-century rebuilding of an eighth-century foundation traditionally attributed to the priest Ganjin. The temple's treasure hall is unusually well-stocked, with paintings and weapons from the Genpei War that took place in the bay below in 1185.
A small but pleasant garden and several subsidiary halls fill the temple grounds. Pilgrims in white robes are a constant feature; the temple does a good business in stamps and scrolls for those walking the full route. Open daily; small entry fee to the treasure hall.
