Tareq Rajab Museum

private collection of 30,000 Islamic art pieces

A private museum housing over 30,000 artefacts of Islamic art collected over decades by Tareq Rajab, former head of Kuwait's department of antiquities. The collection includes ceramics, metalwork, jewellery, costumes, arms, and an exceptional assembly of Arabic calligraphy and historical maps. Free admission. The museum survived both the Iraqi invasion and subsequent looting relatively intact, and remains one of the best-curated collections in the Gulf. Worth a half-day.
