Like every former Soviet city, Osh has a central park with chestnut trees, benches, an outdoor stage and a clutch of decommissioned funfair rides. It runs along the eastern bank of the Ak-Buura between Sulaiman-Too and the main square.
The park is at its best in the late afternoon, when the heat drops and the families come out. A small lake at the southern end has rowing boats for hire by the hour; in winter it freezes hard enough to skate on. There are corn-on-the-cob and shashlik vendors at the edges and the occasional balloon-pop game.
