The Lenin of Osh stares out over the central square in the classic pose: one arm raised, coat billowing, gaze fixed on the future. He is one of the tallest Lenin statues anywhere in the former Soviet Union still in place, and a useful landmark for anyone navigating the city centre.
Locals don't pay him much attention; tourists pose for photographs. The square around him is a pleasant place to sit in the early evening when the heat softens, with families and students walking between the trees.
