Byblos has a lively bar scene concentrated around the old harbour and the lanes of the old souk. The town is one of the more reliably relaxed and cosmopolitan spots on the Lebanese coast, and the waterfront bars fill up on warm evenings with a mix of Beirut weekenders, expats, and international visitors. Unlike some parts of Lebanon, alcohol is freely available here and the atmosphere is secular and sociable.
The harbour-front bars are the most atmospheric — you can sit outside with a drink looking out at the fishing boats and the illuminated castle walls. In summer the nights are warm enough that outdoor seating is the preferred option well past midnight. The old souk lanes have a few quieter spots, including cafes that serve Lebanese coffee and arguileh (waterpipe) to a more local crowd. For a full night out, many visitors end up in one of the larger bars or rooftop venues that stay open late in the summer months.
