Mont Kiara has a well-developed specialty coffee scene — one of the better ones in KL, driven by the neighbourhood's educated, internationally travelled expat population. Independent coffee shops around Publika and the surrounding Jalan Kiara retail strip offer single-origin filter coffee, pour-overs, and espresso to a standard that rivals the better spots in Bangsar or TTDI. Several roasters operate from the neighbourhood.
The cafés tend to be quieter and more spacious than those in denser neighbourhoods, with good wifi and an expectation that customers will stay for hours. Quality varies; the spots with roasting equipment visible are generally the most serious. Weekday mornings are the best time — you get the local workers' coffee rather than the weekend tourist trade.
