Vishal Food and Catering is widely regarded as one of the top banana-leaf rice restaurants in Kuala Lumpur — a lunchtime-focused institution on Jalan Scott in Brickfields that has been serving South Indian vegetarian food since 1980. The standard order is the banana-leaf set: a full banana leaf spread with rice, sambar, rasam, two or three vegetable curries, papad, and pickle, all for around RM12–15 with unlimited rice and curry refills. The dhal is exceptional.
The restaurant fills up quickly from 11:30 am; arriving by noon ensures a seat without a long wait. Service is fast — waiters circulate with refill trays constantly. Non-vegetarian options (chicken, fish, mutton) are available. Closed on Sunday afternoons. A five-minute walk from KL Sentral station.
