Jalan Tun Sambanthan

The main spine of Brickfields' Little India: saree shops, banana-leaf rice, and marigolds

Jalan Tun Sambanthan is the main artery of Brickfields' Little India — a two-kilometre stretch of South Indian culture in central KL, lined with saree and sari shops, gold jewellery stores, flower garland sellers (the marigold and jasmine garlands are sold by the metre for household shrines), spice merchants, and Indian sweet shops. The street is at its most atmospheric in the late afternoon and early evening.

The banana-leaf rice restaurants on and around the street are the main draw for most visitors: Vishal Food & Catering, Sri Nirwana Maju, and Saravana Bhavan are the established names — generous portions of sambar, rasam, and multiple vegetable curries spooned onto a fresh banana leaf for around RM12–15. The street is best during Deepavali (October-November) when kolam patterns in rice flour and arches of marigolds line the entire length.
