Evangelical Lutheran Church

Colonial Lutheran church built in 1904, still serving Brickfields' English-speaking and Tamil-speaking communities

The Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) in Brickfields is one of KL's oldest active Christian congregations, founded in 1904 to serve the Tamil-speaking community. The original church building is a modest colonial structure on Jalan Scott, tucked between the shophouses of Brickfields. Services are conducted in Tamil and English, and the congregation maintains strong links to the surrounding community.

The church is a heritage building and part of the broader fabric of Brickfields' multicultural religious landscape — within a few blocks sit the Buddhist Maha Vihara, the Sri Kandaswamy Temple, and several mosques. The area is one of the few places in KL where you can walk through Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and Islamic places of worship in a single morning.
