The old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin is one of the city's most striking colonial buildings. Completed in 1910, its Moorish-inspired design features horseshoe arches, minarets, and chatri domes -- an architect's romantic vision of what a railway station in British Malaya should look like. The building served as KL's main station until KL Sentral opened in 2001. Today it still handles some commuter services, and the grand facade remains one of the best photo stops in the city. Directly across the road stands the equally ornate Railway Administration Building, designed in matching style.
