Chow Kit Market

KL's largest wet market and one of the most colourful food markets in the city

Chow Kit Market is one of KL's most atmospheric wet markets — a large covered market on the northern edge of the city centre selling fresh produce, meat, fish, spices, and street food. It's best visited in the morning when the market is at full activity, with traders calling out their prices, whole carcasses hanging from hooks, and enormous displays of tropical fruit. The surrounding streets have several excellent hawker stalls that cater to market traders and early shoppers.

The area around Chow Kit has a rough-and-ready reputation among some KL residents, but the market itself is straightforward and welcoming. For visitors interested in Malaysian food culture beyond the malls, a morning here gives an unfiltered picture of how the city actually feeds itself. The walk down from Kampung Baru LRT takes about ten minutes.
