Carenderia Row (Public Market)

The cluster of carenderia (informal canteen) stalls inside and around the Maasin public market is the best place in the city for a cheap, filling meal. Dishes are laid out in steam trays — expect adobo, sinigang, grilled bangus (milkfish), pinakbet, and whatever fish or shellfish came in from the bay that morning. Point at what you want, and it's served over heaped rice. Meals run to about 60–80 pesos. The market is busiest in the mornings and shuts down by early afternoon.
