Maasin City has a compact historic centre with a fine Spanish-era cathedral and a pleasant waterfront esplanade. Most travellers pass through on their way to the diving and whale shark encounters further south, but the city itself is worth a night or two to absorb the slower pace of provincial Filipino life.
