Gimcheon is an inland city in North Gyeongsang, long shaped by roads and railways crossing between Korea's southeast and the central provinces. That transport role still shows, but the better reason to stop is just outside the centre, where temples, ponds, and mountain water make the city feel less like a junction and more like a low-key day trip.
Jikjisa Temple is the anchor: an old Buddhist complex below Hwangaksan, with wooded approaches and a deep temple history. In town, Yeonhwaji Pond is at its best with spring blossoms or summer lotus. Farther out, Buhang Dam Suspension Bridge and the surrounding reservoir add a more modern outdoor stop.
Gimcheon is not one of Korea's obvious headline cities, and that is part of its appeal. It suits travellers moving between Daegu, Daejeon, and the mountain towns who want a spare day with one strong temple and enough scenery to justify the pause.
