Asia > South Korea > Mungyeong
Mungyeong is a spread-out mountain city in northern North Gyeongsang, where old roads crossed the Sobaek range between Seoul and the southeast. The modern transport hub is Jeomchon, but the reason to come is the countryside: wooded passes, river bends, temple paths, and the remains of Korea's coal-mining years.
Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park is the headline. Its old road, stone gates, and forested valley make one of Korea's better easy historical walks, especially in autumn. The same region also holds pottery traditions and festival grounds, so the past here feels practical rather than decorative.
The other side of Mungyeong is industrial memory. Mungyeong Coal Museum and the Eco Rala area turn the old mining district into a family-friendly cultural stop, while Jinnam Gyoban gives the city a scenic river break. It is not a polished resort, but it is a rewarding spare day if you like Korean history with real landscape around it.
