Bahirawakanda Temple stands on the hill above Kandy and is best known for its large seated Buddha statue, visible from much of the city. The statue is more impressive from below than up close, but the climb gives a useful sense of Kandy's bowl-shaped setting.
You can walk up from the centre or take a tuk-tuk. Go for the city view as much as for the temple itself, especially in the morning or late afternoon when the light is softer.
