Atatürk Museum

The two-storey Levantine villa that houses Adana's Atatürk Museum was where the founder of the Turkish Republic stayed during his visits to the city in 1923. The collection inside is small and devotional rather than scholarly — personal effects, photographs, copies of his speeches, a recreated study — but the building itself is a fine example of late-Ottoman mercantile architecture, with carved wooden eaves and ornate cast-iron balconies.

Free entry; closed Mondays. A quick visit (20-30 minutes) and a useful primer on the city's twentieth-century transition from Ottoman provincial capital to industrial Republic.
