Great Mosque of Adana

Sixteenth-century Ramazanoglu mosque complex in old Adana, known for striped stone and Iznik tiles.

The Great Mosque of Adana, or Ulu Cami, is one of the strongest historic sights in the old city. Built under the Ramazanoglu rulers in the 16th century, it forms part of a small complex with a madrasa and tombs, close to the old bazaar streets and the Great Clock Tower.

The building mixes Mamluk, Seljuk, and Ottoman details, with striped stonework, a quiet courtyard, and Iznik tile decoration inside. Visit respectfully outside prayer times and leave time to wander the surrounding lanes, where several of Adana's older monuments sit within a short walk.
