Göreme's main sights are almost all outdoors: rock-cut churches, hiking valleys, and the extraordinary Open-Air Museum. The hot-air balloon flights that leave before dawn are the region's signature experience. Most of the valleys surrounding town can be walked without a guide; pick up a map from any hotel.
