Kırklareli is an inland city in Turkish Thrace, north of Edirne and close to the forested Strandzha range. It is a quieter place than the border cities around it, but it has a real local thread: Neolithic archaeology, Ottoman-era houses, Balkan-Turkish food, and caves and forests within day-trip distance.
The city centre is modest. The Kırklareli Museum and Aşağı Pınar Open-Air Museum give it unusual depth, while the restored Atatürk House and Yayla quarter add a sense of old Thracian town life. The strongest nearby sight is Dupnisa Cave, deep in the hills to the northeast.
Kırklareli is not a first Turkey stop, and it should not replace Edirne. It is better as a slower add-on for travellers crossing Thrace by road, especially if they want a day in forest country rather than another big-city museum round.
