Perisher is the big snow address in New South Wales: a spread of alpine villages, lifts, and ski fields inside Kosciuszko National Park. In winter it is the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere, joining Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Guthega, and Blue Cow into one broad resort area.
The place is built for skiing and snowboarding first. That means it can feel oddly empty outside the snow season, but summer is not a write-off. The high country opens into short walks, snow gum slopes, granite tors, and wide views across the Main Range.
Perisher is not a conventional town with a deep street life. Treat it as a mountain base: come when the snow is on, or use the warmer months for walks like Porcupine Rocks and quiet high-country scenery.
