Day Trips

Adelaide is excellently placed for day trips. The Barossa Valley (70 km north) and McLaren Vale (40 km south) are both under an hour by car and offer serious wine tasting and good food. Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills is 30 minutes east for German food and a pleasant village atmosphere. Mount Lofty (30 minutes) gives views over the city and access to Cleland Wildlife Park, where you can hand-feed kangaroos.

Further afield, Kangaroo Island is a two-day trip minimum (ferry from Cape Jervis plus a day or two on the island). The Flinders Ranges are 5–6 hours north but reward a longer stay — Wilpena Pound and the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park are among the most striking landscapes in Australia.
