Devonport is a compact port city that rewards a few hours of unhurried exploration. The key stops are all close together: the bluff at the Mersey River mouth, the Aboriginal rock art site at Tiagarra, and the maritime museum on the waterfront. A decent base for a half-day before heading into northwest Tasmania, and a much better introduction to the island than the ferry terminal alone suggests.
