Apollo Bay

Coastal town between beach and Otway forest, useful as an overnight base.

Apollo Bay is one of the most useful overnight stops on the Great Ocean Road. It has a real beach-town feel, enough places to eat, and quick access inland to the Otway rainforest.

It is not as polished as Lorne, which is part of its appeal. Stay here if you want to break the drive sensibly before the Twelve Apostles and still have time for Maits Rest or the waterfall detours.
