Maits Rest is a short, easy rainforest circuit in the Otways, and it is one of the best ways to break up the coastal drive. The path moves through cool temperate forest with tree ferns, moss, and tall old trees that feel worlds away from the cliffs.
It is popular because it is accessible and quick, but it is not a throwaway stop. Give it half an hour without rushing and you will understand why the Great Ocean Road is more than beaches and sea stacks.
