Broome Bird Observatory sits by Roebuck Bay, one of Australia's great shorebird sites. Huge numbers of migratory waders feed on the tidal flats here, making the observatory a serious stop for birders and a quietly excellent nature outing for everyone else.
The tide matters. Guided walks and viewing sessions are worth arranging if you are not already a confident birder, because the mudflats can look empty until someone helps you read them.
