Yallingup

Western Australian surf village where limestone caves meet the Cape to Cape coast.

Yallingup is a small surf village on the Cape Naturaliste coast, north-west of Margaret River and close enough to the wineries to feel part of that region without losing its own saltwater identity. The name is usually translated as "place of love", and on a calm evening above the beach that does not feel like tourism-board poetry.

The village has three strong cards: Yallingup Beach, the limestone chambers of Ngilgi Cave, and the granite channels at Canal Rocks. The Cape to Cape Track passes through, so even a short walk gives you cliffs, heath, surf, and the sense that the Indian Ocean is doing most of the talking.

Yallingup is best with a car and a flexible day. Beaches that look gentle can turn rough quickly, and the rock pools around Injidup and Wyadup need respect in swell. Pick conditions carefully; when the weather is right, this is one of the South West's easiest places to justify a whole spare day.

Things to Do

Yallingup's best sights are natural and close together: beach, cave, granite coast, and short sections of the Cape to Cape Track. The ocean is powerful here, so treat rock shelves and natural pools as viewpoints first and swimming spots only when conditions are clearly safe.
