Mangilao is a village on the east coast of Guam, midway up the island and home to the main campus of the University of Guam — the largest higher-education institution in Micronesia — along with its associated Richard F. Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center, which holds the most important collection of Chamorro and Micronesian ethnographic and historical material in the region. Beyond the university, Mangilao is mostly a quiet residential area along Route 4, with the dramatic Pago Bay overlook at its southern end — one of the best views on the island, across the bay where the Chamorro first met the Spanish in 1565.

Things to Do
Mangilao is a quiet residential village whose draw is the university and the dramatic Pago Bay coastline at its southern edge. The University of Guam campus is open and walkable; the Micronesian Area Research Center there is the best place in the western Pacific to read about the region's history. South along Route 4, the road opens up to a long view across Pago Bay with crashing surf below.
