Queens Gardens is the formal Victorian park in the centre of Nelson, laid out in the 1890s and still doing the same job: lawns, mature trees, fountains, a wisteria walk, and a small lake with ducks. It is the place most workers in the central business district eat their lunch on a sunny day.
Adjoining Albion Square, with the Suter Art Gallery and a couple of memorials, makes a natural pair with the gardens. The whole arrangement is small but well kept and within five minutes of Trafalgar Street, the Provincial Museum, and the Suter.
