Kavaja Rock

Kavaja Rock is a coastal landmark south of Durres, near Golem, where the old route of the Via Egnatia passed through the landscape. Local tradition connects the rock with the struggle between Pompey and Julius Caesar, giving it a historical pull beyond its use as a simple navigation point.

It is a short stop rather than a full outing, but it gives a useful sense of how this stretch of coast linked the Adriatic with the inland Balkans long before the modern beach resorts arrived.
