Makravank is a small Armenian church-complex in the Makravan district of Hrazdan, a few kilometres from Tsaghkadzor. The monastery dates from the medieval period and occupies a quiet position set apart from the town. It is less visited than Kecharis and consequently has a more contemplative atmosphere — you are unlikely to encounter other tourists here.
The complex includes a main church and the remains of ancillary buildings. The stonework, in the warm pink-orange tufa typical of Armenian ecclesiastical architecture, is in reasonable condition. Makravank is a functioning religious site and is accessible throughout the day. It pairs well with a visit to Kecharis: the two monasteries make a half-day ecclesiastical circuit that gives a good sense of the medieval Armenian building tradition. A taxi from central Tsaghkadzor takes around 10 minutes.
