Tsaghkadzor is compact enough to cover on foot — the monastery is at the edge of town, the ski lifts a short walk beyond. In winter the skiing and snowboarding are the main draw; in summer the gondola ride and the surrounding hills pull hikers and cyclists. The Writers' Union resort adds an unexpected layer of Soviet architectural history to what might otherwise be a purely athletic visit.
