Schockl is Graz's house mountain, the place locals use when they want altitude without a serious expedition. Trails climb through forest, and a cable car makes the summit accessible for walkers who mainly want the view.
On a clear day the reward is a broad sweep over Graz, the surrounding hills, and deeper into Styria. It is a fine counterpoint to the old town: same city, different scale, with fresh air replacing courtyards and stucco.
