Mozartplatz

A small square just east of Residenzplatz, dominated by an 1842 bronze statue of Mozart by Ludwig Schwanthaler — the first major public memorial to the composer anywhere. Constanze, Mozart's widow, attended the unveiling.

The square is now one of the busiest pedestrian crossroads in the old town, ringed by cafes that all charge a small premium for the view of the statue. The buildings are mostly 17th-century with later baroque fronts.
