The quiet residential quarter on the northwest edge of the Altstadt, set into the western flank of the Mönchsberg, has a single defining feature: the Augustiner Bräustübl, the largest beer hall in Salzburg, run by Augustinian monks since 1621. The beer is brewed on site, served in stoneware mugs you collect yourself from a fountain.
Steep cobbled lanes climb to the parish church of Mülln, with a baroque interior and a view over the western city. The half-hour walk from Hanuschplatz is itself worthwhile, along the river path past Mozartsteg.
