Cut into the side of the Festungsberg directly below the fortress, the Stiegl-Keller has a stepped beer garden facing the city — five terraces of long shared tables under chestnut trees, full to bursting on warm evenings. The view is essentially the same as the famous Festung view, but with a beer.
Inside, vaulted stone halls hold a more conventional restaurant doing hefty Austrian classics. The Stiegl beer comes straight from the brewery a kilometre west.
