Steyrtal-Museumsbahn

The Museumsbahn runs from a small station at Steyr-Lokalbahnhof up the Steyr valley to Grünburg on summer Sundays and public holidays. The line winds along the river for 17 km, crossing several iron-truss bridges and stopping at country halts. The journey takes about an hour each way.

The Grünburg end has a small museum of old rolling stock and a beer garden. Tickets are sold on board; check the timetable on the operator's site before going as services are limited.

A story
Opened in 1889 with a track gauge of 760 mm, the Steyrtalbahn is the oldest steam-operated narrow-gauge railway still running in Europe. The locomotives, restored and oil-fired, are the originals.
