MUMOK

The Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna — MUMOK — is housed in a dark basalt cube inside the MuseumsQuartier and holds Austria's most important collection of 20th- and 21st-century art. The permanent collection runs from Picasso and the Cubists through Pop Art (Warhol, Lichtenstein, Oldenburg) to Vienna Actionism, the confrontational performance movement that emerged in the 1960s.

The Actionism rooms are heavy going — graphic photography of the original performances by Schwarzkogler, Mühl, and Nitsch — but historically important. Major temporary exhibitions occupy several floors. Closed Mondays.
