The Bottle House is one of the most singular buildings in the Caucasus — a two-storey private residence on the corner of Guseinli and Garia streets, its exterior walls set with approximately 48,000 glass bottles arranged in decorative patterns. Up close the effect is stranger and more beautiful than photographs suggest: the bottle bottoms catch the light in different colours depending on the time of day, and the portraits and geometric designs embedded in the wall repay slow examination.
The house is a private residence and not open to visitors inside, but the exterior is fully accessible and always worth a stop. It is a five-minute walk north of the Shah Abbas Mosque. This is the kind of local landmark — impractical, personal, surprising — that you remember long after the mosques and museums blur together.
