The largest museum in Ganca covers the city's history from ancient times through the Soviet period, housed in a handsome early twentieth-century mansion near the main square. The collections are substantial for a regional museum: archaeological finds from the old city ruins, ethnographic displays of Azerbaijani material culture, and exhibits on the khanate and Russian colonial periods.
The building itself is worth seeing — one of the city's best examples of early twentieth-century noveau-riche Russian provincial architecture. The museum is well-maintained by regional standards and the staff are generally welcoming to foreign visitors. Plan an hour, more if you are interested in Caucasian history.
