Trebinje is a town for walking, eating well, and visiting monasteries. The old town along the Trebišnjica river — plane trees, Austro-Hungarian arcades, open-air cafes — is for strolling, ideally in the late afternoon when the locals fill the cafes. Outside the centre, three monasteries (the Tvrdoš winery monastery, the hilltop Hercegovačka Gračanica, and the smaller Duži) and a Turkish-period bridge make a leisurely day's circuit. For nature, the karst caves of Vjetrenica and the surrounding wine-country make easy outings.
