The great brutalist conference centre south of the centre — the largest multifunctional complex in southeastern Europe when it was finished in 1981 to mark 1,300 years of Bulgarian statehood. Love it or hate it, it anchors the view south to Vitosha mountain. The landscaped plaza around it is one of Sofia's main public spaces.
