Slaveykov Square is a central Sofia meeting point, long associated with book stalls and named for the father-and-son writers Petko and Pencho Slaveykov. Their seated statue gives the square its most photographed detail, but the real value is the everyday mix of readers, cafés, trams, and passers-by.
It is not grand in the way Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is grand. Stop here while walking the centre, browse if the book trade is active, and use it as a small window into Sofia's literary and civic life.
