Stražica Lighthouse

Stražica sits on the southern tip of Prvić, the small uninhabited island that closes off the mouth of Baška Bay. From the boulevard in Baška you can see its low silhouette across the water; on a clear day the white lighthouse tower is visible above the rocky shore.

Boat trips run from Baška in season and circle Prvić, usually with a swimming stop in one of the coves on the eastern side. The island itself is karst scrub with a population of wild sheep and not much else — but the snorkelling in the bays below the lighthouse is exceptional, with crystal-clear water and rocky coves untouched by development.

A story
Built in 1875 on the uninhabited island of Prvić, the Stražica light is one of the oldest still-operating lighthouses on the Croatian coast. The keeper's house sits five metres below the 5-metre tower — small, white, exposed to the bora — and is now occasionally rented out as the most isolated holiday let in the Kvarner.
