Vela Plaža, the Great Beach, runs for 1,800 metres along the curve of Baška Bay and is the reason most people come here. The shore is pebbles rather than sand — small, smooth, light grey — which means the water stays remarkably clear even in high season. The slope into the sea is gentle, making it one of the more child-friendly beaches on the Adriatic.
The promenade behind the beach is lined with cafes, ice-cream stands, and rental booths for paddleboards and pedalos. Showers and changing rooms are spaced along its length. In July and August it is genuinely packed; in June and September it is one of the best beaches in Croatia. The view across to the bare ridges of Prvić islet, lit gold at sunset, is the postcard image of Baška.
