City Walls

Two-kilometre medieval circuit with rooftop and sea views

The city walls date from the 14th century and run nearly two kilometres around the old town, fully intact and open to walk. At points they rise 25 metres above ground level, giving sweeping views over terracotta rooftops, the harbour, and the island of Lokrum. This is the single must-do in Dubrovnik. Go early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the cruise-ship crowds. Entry is at the Pile Gate or the Ploce Gate.
