Eating Out

Eating on Čiovo means fish — grilled simply with olive oil, capers, and lemon — and the freshest version is usually found in the smaller villages rather than the beach bars of Okrug Gornji. Mastrinka on the north coast has a handful of konobas where the catch was probably in the water the same morning. Slatine likewise has a couple of waterfront spots that rely on the fishing boats tied up nearby rather than on a supplier in Split.

In Okrug Gornji the choice is wider but more tourist-oriented. Stick to the places slightly set back from the main beach strip and you are more likely to find a kitchen that takes the food seriously. Most restaurants on the island operate May to September only.
