Eating Out

Opatija and the neighbouring village of Volosko together make one of the best eating destinations on the Croatian coast. The tradition of serious cooking goes back to the Habsburg era, and the restaurants here are more ambitious than what you find in most Croatian resort towns. Seafood dominates, but the kitchens also draw on Istrian ingredients — truffles, wild asparagus, Istrian prosciutto, and local olive oils. Prices are higher than elsewhere in Croatia but still reasonable by western European standards.
