Getting Around

The historic centre of Brno is compact and walkable. All the main sights — Špilberk Castle, the Cathedral, the Old Town Hall, the Capuchin Crypt, the Ossuary, and náměstí Svobody — are within 15 minutes on foot of each other. Villa Tugendhat is in the Černá Pole district, about 25 minutes' walk northeast of the centre or a short tram ride.

The city has an efficient tram and trolleybus network. Tram lines 4 and 8 are useful for getting between the main station and the centre. Tickets can be bought at automated machines at stops or on a mobile app; validate on board. Brno has a single integrated fare zone covering the whole city. Taxis and ride-hailing apps (Bolt operates here) are available and reasonably priced. Cycling is popular among locals and there is a bike-hire scheme, though the terrain around Špilberk and Petrov involves some hills.
